How Long Can Chickens Go Without Water in Winter?
Rule
- Overnight 8h locked in coop without water: normal, fine if water at dusk/dawn.
- 6h daytime frozen: stressful, egg production dips.
- 12-24h: dangerous – dehydration, crop impaction, frostbite risk rises (birds eat snow, chill).
Check crops at dusk – full = drank. Pale combs + lethargy + no droppings = dehydrated. Give lukewarm (not hot) water immediately, check snow myth.
